Care around the Child

You must know and understand

• the welfare of the child is paramount
• positive expectations should be encouraged
• a child must never be smacked or humiliated
• keeping a child safe and maintaining a healthy and safe environment is vital
• children must be protected from harm and abuse
• service providers must work in partnership with parents/guardians and families
• children learning and development should be encouraged through varying activities
• diversity should always be valued
• the equal and fair treatment of children should be valued and each child should be encouraged to reach their true potential
• anti-discrimination should be practiced at all times
• confidentiality is vital
• information must only be shared on a need to know basis only
• care around the child should be in partnership with all involved including other professionals
